Copper Tea Kettle - Care & Use

A solid copper tea kettle is an excellent choice for rapid water heating and kitchen beauty. With the high cost of copper, some manufacturers now utilize copper plated steel which is not as efficient as a solid copper tea kettle. If a solid copper tea kettle becomes tarnished with use, the appearance of the kettle can normally be restored with any household copper cleaner.

Some copper tea kettles are lacquered coated at the factory to prevent tarnishing before use. If a lacquered copper tea kettle will be used on a hot stove top, the lacquer should be completely removed before use to avoid a burned lacquer appearance. Copper tea kettles without a lacquer coat do not require the time consuming process involved with lacquer removal before use. Most quality copper tea kettles are tin lined to avoid a metallic water taste. Some copper tea kettles are lined with nickel, however, nickel can be reactive to certain types of foods or water impurities and may corrode with use. Many copper tea kettles manufactured in Europe are tin lined such as the Simplex copper kettle. Care should always be exercised when utilizing a copper tea kettle to avoid overheating as this can damage the kettle interior or exterior.
